Brio Leisure introduces scheme to help Daily Mile project gain ground

A new fitness initiative aimed at primary school children in Cheshire and designed to improve their health and performance in the classroom is to get an extra boost through the summer holidays.

Brio Leisure, the community interest company behind leisure and sports venues such as the Northgate Arena and Northwich Memorial Court, is offering free junior memberships at its centres through July and August to the schools in the Daily Mile pilot programme.

Jordanstown School pupils enjoy healthy project

Pupils at Jordanstown School for deaf and visually impaired children have clocked up over 650 miles throughout June after embracing the Daily Mile initiative.

Students and staff walked a mile per day, give or take the odd day missed due to exams. They enjoyed a whole school approach, with everyone including cleaners and bus drivers taking the time to enjoy some fresh air together.
