Pupils at Pondhu Primary School in St Austell have become possibly the first children in Cornwall to take part in the “Daily Mile” initiative which sees them walking or running for a mile a day as part of their normal school routine.

The school introduced the initiative at the beginning of this term and Headteacher Debbie Tregellas says that staff have already seen an improvement in the children’s energy levels and their engagement in learning.

“The idea came from St Ninians School in Scotland whose pupils have been doing a daily mile since 2012” said Debbie. “After seeing an item on the initiative on television during the Summer, our Assistant Headteacher Mr Cooper contacted St Ninians to find out more and has been liaising with the school ever since to ensure that we match their example.”
