“The Daily Mile gives me the time to chat to the adults about any of my worries”
At Hillwood Primary School, we have noticed the positive impact The Daily Mile has on our pupils’ mental wellbeing. One staff member said, “The Daily Mile gives us opportunities to have informal chats with our pupils. It is often a time when we find out how pupils are feeling about things or a chance for them to share any worries or concerns.”
P5 pupils shared that:
‘The Daily Mile helps to have a break from my work and focus when I come back’
‘The Daily Mile gives me the time to chat to the adults about any of my worries’
‘It frees my mind’
Our Top tips for getting involved with The Daily Mile:
We introduced a whole school Musical mile on a Friday where we all walk together and listen to music. This is the highlight of many pupil’s week. It is great seeing the older pupils supporting the younger pupils and interacting with each other. The pupils came up with the playlist of songs that motivate them to move. The rest of the week teachers fit in The Daily Mile as and when suits their needs. We keep it very flexible and fun so that it doesn’t become a chore.
