On its own, of course, the Chancellor’s budget announcement is not enough to stop the obesity juggernaut in its tracks – it still hurtles onwards. But it will apply the brakes.

Three Dundee schools in new bid to tackle child obesity

Schoolchildren at three Dundee primary schools will be the first to take part in a new programme aimed at tackling childhood obesity.

The all-inclusive approach, to be tested over a four-year period in the East End ward, aims to improve the lifestyle of children at home, at school and in the community.

It comes after figures released in February revealed the city’s children are the fattest in mainland Scotland.

A new initiative has been launched this week to help schoolchildren across North Ayrshire to promote healthy living

A brand new initiative that aims to get youngsters more healthy and active is set to launch in North Ayrshire next week.

Headteachers from primary schools across the area as well as partners, including Education Scotland and NHS Ayrshire and Arran, are due to meet on Wednesday, March 9 at St Anthony’s Primary in Saltcoats for the official launch of ‘Fit Fifteen’.

The whole idea behind the ‘Fit Fifteen’ programme is to ensure everyone, every day, everywhere is active by providing more opportunities for daily physical activity. And this initiative ensures that children and young people take part in at least 15 minutes of fitness each school day.

STIRLING, Scotland (CBS News/CBS Newspath) — Students at an elementary school in Scotland have mastered the subject of fitness. Their teacher says because of one daily lesson, not one child in the school is overweight.

Students at St. Ninians Primary School in Scotland follow a strict fitness routine. Their Head Teacher, Elaine Wylie, is both coach and cheerleader.
