Today, the Dutch Athletics Federation has announced its partnership with The Daily Mile Foundation, supported by INEOS, making it the new implementation partner in the Netherlands.

The partnership demonstrates The Daily Mile’s ongoing support for national health priorities, with a shared vision to enable every child to enjoy the benefits of regular physical activity.

In the lead up to the European Indoor Athletics Championships, local NN Running Team athlete Bjorn Koreman joined children at Emma School, Apeldoorn, for their Daily Mile, highlighting the simplicity and effectiveness of the initiative.

Global Director of The Daily Mile, Gordon Banks, says the collaboration between both organisations further supports the growth of Daily Mile community.

“We are excited to announce our partnership with The Dutch Athletics Federation – for us, this further supports a growing community of organisations around the world that understand the health crisis that our children are experiencing, and the role they can play in tackling it,” Banks says.

With nearly half of Dutch children (47%*) not meeting daily physical activity requirements, the Daily Mile is a simple, effective, fun and free model that breaks down barriers to access.

The Dutch Athletics, Chief Executive Officer, Pieke de Zwart says the partnership is a step forward in reaching it’s 2032 goal to get three million people moving.

“We are proud to join The Daily Mile’s global community as the implementation partner for the Netherlands. At Atletiekunie, we believe that fun should be at the heart of every child’s activity, and it’s inspiring to see children across the Netherlands already loving The Daily Mile. Our goal is to get 3 million people moving by 2032, and The Daily Mile is a fantastic step toward making that mission vision a reality!” de Zwart says.

NN Running Team athlete, Bjorn Koreman, says the Daily Mile and the Dutch Athletics Federation are helping to create positive environments for children to engage in physical activity.

“It was fantastic to see the kids at Emma School getting active with the Daily Mile – demonstrating, first-hand, how collaboration between both the Dutch Athletics Federation and the Daily Mile is helping to inspire children and improve health through movement.“ Koreman says.

The Daily Mile is an inclusive and free initiative that gets children walking, running, or wheeling for 15-minutes in the fresh air with friends during school time. Created by children, for children, the Daily Mile has a global reach with over 5 million children registered to take part across 96 countries and is adopted by 700 schools in the Netherlands.
