Read on belowAs The Daily Mile enters its 13th year, we are incredibly grateful for the continued support from our research community. Over the years, their research has provided valuable evidence of the impact of our model as well as insights that have helped us refine and evolve The Daily Mile.
We are delighted to announce that there are currently two active research projects, both focusing on teacher wellbeing in relation to The Daily Mile. One is based at the University of Florida and the other is a collaboration between the University of Stirling and Edinburgh University.
We are acutely aware of the pressures on teachers, and these research studies are designed to better understand and improve their experiences. We are reaching out to invite teachers to participate in either of our two studies which span across the UK & Ireland as well as the United States.
The study launched by University of Stirling and Edinburgh University aims to evaluate the effects of The Daily Mile on teacher wellbeing. The Daily Mile is a physical activity intervention originally introduced by St Ninians Primary School, Stirling and has been shown to provide benefits to children’s physical activity levels, body composition, fitness, and cognitive ability. However, potential benefits to teachers remain underexplored.
Participation in the study is straightforward and should take no more than 10 minutes of your time. The survey has been designed to be user-friendly and informative, with detailed instructions provided at the beginning. You’ll have the opportunity to review the process before deciding to proceed. Contributions are entirely voluntary, and your privacy and confidentiality are important. All information provided will be used solely for research purposes.
Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either Dr. Colin Moran (colin.moran@stir.ac.uk) or Dr. Josie Booth (Josie.Booth@ed.ac.uk). They will be more than happy to assist you.

The second study at the University of Florida is inviting teachers to be part of The Daily Mile research study. This external objective study will evaluate The Daily Mile’s impact on teachers’ perceptions of their well-being, classroom management, and connections with their pupils.
They’re looking for teachers from the US and UK & Ireland who are new to The Daily Mile. If this is you or someone you know, participating is easy. The University will ask you to complete two quick surveys a few months apart – one before starting The Daily Mile and one a few weeks later. Your school will be referenced in the published study.
Click on the link below to sign up. Then look for an email from the University of Florida research team this Autumn. The University wants you to know how much they appreciate your crucial participation in their evaluation.
Please note that participants are NOT required to sign up for The Daily Mile to participate in the study.
Multiple teachers from the same school are welcome to participate and the school does not have to be signed up to The Daily Mile for either research study.
